Hatching And Raising Sebrights
Hatching Sebright bantams can be very enjoyable and educational, if done correctly. The most important thing to know for hatching Sebright chicks is that they usually hatch after 20 days instead of 21, so that means that you should also start lockdown a day earlier.
After they have most of the eggs have hatched and you can’t see anymore eggs with cracks, You can remove the hatched chicks. Before you put your chicks into the incubator, make sure that: the water temperature is the same as the brooder temperature, you have put kitchen paper on the floor, you have sprinkled some food on the floor so they can learn what is and isn’t food, check all the chicks for curled toes and if they have curled toes you can simply fix them by straightening them out with some medical tape; it is also very important to blend the chick crumb and put stones in the drinker as Sebright chicks are very small. After all these things you can finally move them into their new home!
After a few days you can put bedding on the floor of the brooder box over the kitchen paper. After one week you can remove the stones from the water and start feeding them full sized chick crumb. When they are 6-8 weeks old you can start to move them outside and take away the heat. You should start to feed them layer pellets when they are about 16 weeks old and sebrights will typically start laying between 18 and 22 weeks of age.
