Sebrights will normally start laying in January of February and will start to slow down again in September

Sebrights usually hatch on day 20 [a day earlier than most chickens] and you should also start lockdown a day earlier, on day 18

In our experience they only need about half the space of an adult chicken and can do well in confinement but prefer to free range or have more space but you must be careful if you are free-ranging them as they can be very good flyers

We usually let our sebrights off the heat and out into the chicken coop at about 8 weeks old, but if the weather is cold you could keep them in for a bit longer.

Sebright hen between the age of 1-3 years can lay up to 150 Small white eggs a year between January and September and when the get older you may only get 1-3 eggs a week in even the hottest months.

I like to Start feeding my chickens layer quality pellets when they are 15 weeks old or older, some people say that normal layer pellets are too big for them and that they can choke on them but in my experience that has never happened.

We have kept up to two adult Sebright roosters and four hens in one flock at any time and have never had any problems.

A healthy Sebright bantam can live for up to 8 years!
